Mildura Writers Festival is delighted to host a screening of the award winning documentary Brazen Hussies to celebrate International Women’s Day. The film charts the Australian Women’s Movement from 1965 – 1975. We’ve chosen this film as an important reminder to all of how far we have come, but also how important it is to maintain our vigilance and our passion for women’s rights. Some key Australian women writers like Kate Jennings, Anne Summers and Germaine Greer were integral to those early years. In this small witnessing of their actions, we remind ourselves to continue fighting the good fight. BRAZEN HUSSIES shows us how a daring and diverse group of women joined forces to defy the status quo, demand equality and create profound social change - contributing to one of the greatest social movements of the 20th Century. The film interweaves freshly uncovered archival footage, personal photographs, memorabilia and lively accounts from the bold women who reignited the feminist movement in Australia, at times at great personal cost.
